§ 6. Reduction of force, curtailment of expenditures.

Nothing herein shall be construed to prohibit the Mayor from reducing the number of the force of the Fire Department because of curtailment of expenditures or like causes; provided, the persons discharged for such reasons shall be those of least seniority in period of time of service in the Fire Department; and provided further, each person so discharged for such causes shall be at the head of the list of eligibles for appointment and first employed in the order of such seniority.
