Every person violating any provision of this chapter shall be guilty of an offense
and, upon conviction, shall be punished by a fine of not more than Two Hundred Fifty
Dollars ($250.00), excluding costs, fees and assessments, or by imprisonment in the
City jail for a period of not more than thirty (30) days, or by both such fine and
imprisonment; provided, however that any person producing proof in court that a current
security verification form or equivalent form which has been issued by the department
reflecting liability coverage for such person was in force at the time of the alleged
offense shall be entitled to dismissal of such charge upon payment of court costs;
and provided further that if proof of security verification is presented to the court
within forty-eight (48) hours after the violation, the charge shall be dismissed without
payment of court costs.
