No person shall place, maintain or display, upon or in view of any roadway, any unauthorized
sign, signal, marking or device which purports to be, is an imitation of or resembles
an official traffic-control device, railroad sign or signal, which attempts to direct
the movement of traffic or which hides from view or interferes with the effectiveness
of any official traffic-control device, railroad sign or signal; and no person shall
place or maintain, nor shall any public authority permit to be placed or maintained,
upon any roadway, any such sign or signal. This section shall not be construed to
prohibit the erection of highway signs or signals giving useful directional information
and of such type that cannot be mistaken for official signs. Every such prohibited
sign, signal or marking is hereby declared a public nuisance and the authority having
jurisdiction over the street or highway is hereby empowered to remove, impound or
cause to be removed or impounded the same without notice.
