§ 1002. Powers, duties, and responsibilities.

  • The powers, duties, and responsibilities of the Tulsa Youth Council shall be as follows:

    A.

    The Tulsa Youth Council shall have the power to draft legislation and ordinance amendments for the Tulsa City Council to consider. The Tulsa Youth Council shall draft legislation only under the sponsorship and mentorship of a City Councilor. No proposed legislation shall have effect until approved as an ordinance as provided in the Tulsa City Charter.

    B.

    The Tulsa Youth Council shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Tulsa City Council and the City of Tulsa administration concerning the needs of youth in the City of Tulsa. It shall recommend programs and policies designed to alleviate the concerns and promote the beneficial ideas of today's youth.

    C.

    The Tulsa Youth Council shall respond to all requests for comment and recommendation on matters referred to them by the Office of the Mayor, the City Council and all City agencies, boards and commissions.

    D.

    The Tulsa Youth Council shall sponsor and hold an annual Youth Summit, focusing upon access to political officials, professional opportunities and positive development of Tulsa's youth.

    E.

    The Tulsa Youth Council shall ensure a strong and diverse organization composed of a representative cross-section of the Tulsa community; to develop a public profile and increase awareness of the Tulsa Youth Council within Tulsa and surrounding areas; and to leverage the efforts of other youth organizations where appropriate through collaboration and partnering.

    F.

    The Tulsa Youth Council shall report quarterly to the Tulsa City Council at a regularly scheduled Council committee meeting on the goals, accomplishments, activities and developments of the Tulsa Youth Council.
